AGENDA HEADING:
Ordering construction of the following: 2008 Park and Cemetery HMA Improvements - receiving bids, (6-10-08), and setting date of hearing, (6-23-08). Construction Estimate - $444,200
SYNOPSIS:
Recommend the City Council proceed with construction of the improvement and set dates to receive bids and hold a public hearing, as required by Iowa Code, utilizing the method of financing referenced below. Park and cemetery roadways and parking lots require periodic rehabilitation to provide safe access, proper drainage, and an aesthetic experience for park and cemetery visitors. This project provides for pavement scarification, HMA resurfacing, curb replacement, and storm water drainage improvements to address the normal pavement deterioration that has occurred over the years.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Amount: $444,200 City Engineer's estimate
Funding Source: 2008-2009 CIP, Page Park-15, Neighborhood Park Improvements, PKS137, being:
$206,050 in G. O. Bonds from
PKS137 for improvements at the East Side Library: $150,000 in available G. O.
Bonds and $60,500 in G. O. Bonds to be issued from PKS138, Cemetery
Infrastructure and Improvements, Page Park-5, for improvements at Glendale,
Woodland, and Laurel Hill Cemeteries; and $27,650 in G. O. Bonds to be issued
from BLD111, Parking Lot Rehabilitation, Page Building-15, for improvements at
the Police Station
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Engineering Department has
prepared plans, specifications, form of contract documents, and City Engineer’s
estimate for the construction of the 2008 Park and Cemetery HMA Improvements,
11-2008-007. The improvement includes
overlaying existing roads and parking lots, storm sewer construction and
earthwork; all in accordance with the contract documents, including Plan File
Nos. 490-1/9 at the following locations in

The estimated construction cost is $444,200. The proposed plans, specifications, and form of contract documents are available for public inspection in the City Engineer's Office.

ANTICIPATED ACTIONS AND FUTURE COMMITMENTS:
Anticipated actions include public hearing, receive and file bids, designate lowest bidder, and approve contract and bond; also partial payments to the contractor and final acceptance of work.
