AGENDA HEADING:   

 

Approval of the procurement of electronic legal research services and materials from West Publishing at an estimated annual cost of $45,000.

 

 

SYNOPSIS: 

 

Recommend approval of the procurement of legal research services and materials from West Publishing during fiscal year 2009 at an estimated annual cost of $45,000.00.  Municipal Code section 2-726(a) (5) provides for a non-competitive procurement of contracts for the purchase of magazines, books, periodicals and similar articles of an educational or instructional nature.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

Amount:   $45,000.

 

Funding Source:  LGL040000/Tort Services and LGL010000/General Services

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

 

West Publishing is considered to be the most comprehensive  source for general and specialized legal research materials, including all state and federal cases and municipal databases.  Access to the West Publishing database allows the Legal Department to use and maintain a much smaller legal library of printed materials and to have access to legal cases and federal and other state statutes and regulations on a timely basis.

Action:    West Publishing for a blanket purchase order on electronic research materials during fiscal year 2008 to be used by the Legal Department.  Moved by Coleman to adopt.  Motion Carried 6-1.

Invoices are received and paid on a monthly basis, depending on the amount of services and materials used during the month.
