AGENDA HEADING:

 

Ordering construction of the following:  2008 Storm Sewer Repair Contract 2 - Receiving bids, (2-24-09), and Setting date of hearing, (3-9-09).  (Construction Estimate - $233,750).

 

 

SYNOPSIS:

 

Recommend the City Council proceed with construction of this improvement and set dates to receive bids and hold a public hearing, as required by Iowa Code, utilizing the method of financing referenced below.  This project provides for the replacement of deteriorated storm sewer infrastructure at five locations city-wide to restore the integrity of the system and address localized drainage concerns.  These five locations are not flood-related and are not eligible for FEMA reimbursement.

Funding Source:  2008-2009 CIP, Page Sorm-4, City-wide Storm Water Utility Projects, STE057, Storm Water Utility Funds

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 

The Engineering Department has prepared plans, specifications, form of contract documents, and City Engineer’s estimate for the construction of the 2008 Storm Sewer Repair Contract 2, 08-2008-002.  The improvement includes construction of storm sewers, manholes, intakes, restoration of pavement & landscaping, and other incidental items; in accordance with the contract documents including Plan File Nos. 495-027/064, to repair deteriorated infrastructure at 5 locations in Des Moines, Iowa, being:  behind 1416 Oak Park Avenue, south of the intersection of Muskogee Avenue & River Oaks Drive, intersection of 29th Street & Forest Drive, intersection of South Union Street & Park Avenue, and the intersection of University Avenue & Maine Street.

 

The estimated construction cost is $233,750.  The proposed plans, specifications, and form of contract documents are available for public inspection in the City Engineer's Office.

ANTICIPATED ACTIONS AND FUTURE COMMITMENTS:

 

Anticipated actions include public hearing, receive and file bids, designate lowest bidder, and approve contract and bond; also partial payments to the contractor and final acceptance of work.
