AGENDA HEADING:

 

Approving Change Order No. 6 with Christensen Bros., Inc., for additional work on the S.W. 9th Street Viaduct over M.L. King Jr. Parkway Rehabilitation project, in an amount not to exceed $94,116.10.

 

 

SYNOPSIS:

 

Recommend approval of Change Order No. 6 in an amount not to exceed $94,116.10 with Christensen Bros., Inc., Scott Christensen, President, 644 River Road, P.O. Box 478, Cherokee, Iowa  51012, for additional bridge floor repair, curb repair, parapet wall repair, diaphragm replacement, drain scupper repair, and drain pipe fabrication.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 

The contract for the rehabilitation of the S.W. 9th Street Viaduct over M.L. King Jr. Parkway Rehabilitation project was awarded to Christensen Bros., Inc., in the amount of $1,327,654, which was $132,017.20 under the original engineer’s estimate of $1,459,671.20.

 

The S.W. 9th Street Viaduct over M.L. King Jr. Parkway Rehabilitation project was designed to restore the structural integrity to the structure.  During construction, the amount of deterioration was found to be more than had been estimated during the design of the project.  This change order adjusts the estimated quantities for bridge floor repair, curb repair, and parapet wall repair.  The change order also adds replacement of diaphragms that were too deteriorated to repair, repair of seven drain scuppers that were badly corroded, and drain pipe fabrication to repair corrosion and freeze damage.  This project was bid using the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) specifications, which require field measurements of bridge repair items, because the quantities must be determined during removal operations.  The $94,116.10 cost of this change order adjusts final contract quantities for these items to as-built quantities.
