AGENDA HEADING:

 

Approving and authorizing the execution of Iowa Department of Transportation Agreement for 6th Avenue Resurfacing from University Avenue to the Des Moines River Bridge.

 

 

SYNOPSIS:

 

Recommend approval of Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) Agreement No. 01-09-ESP-014 for Federal Stimulus project funding for 6th Avenue Resurfacing from University Avenue to the Des Moines River Bridge.  Federal Stimulus funds up to a maximum amount of $600,000 are available for 100% of construction costs.  The City’s portion of the project, consisting of the design, inspection, and construction administration, is estimated to be $75,000.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 

A number of transportation related projects were submitted to and approved by the Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Executive Committee at their January 29, 2009, meeting for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  The funding request for 6th Avenue Resurfacing from University Avenue to the Des Moines River Bridge was approved, and the Iowa DOT has prepared an agreement for the proposed improvement, which consists of milling the existing roadway and resurfacing with hot mix asphalt.  This project will be constructed in the summer of 2009.
