AGENDA HEADING:

 

Ordering construction of the following:  McKinley Avenue Drainage Improvements - S.W. 26th/S.W. 31st Streets - Receiving bids, (7-14-09), and Setting date of hearing, (7-27-09).  (Construction Estimate - $313,476.50).

 

 

SYNOPSIS:

 

Recommend the City Council proceed with construction of the improvement and set dates to receive bids and hold a public hearing, as required by Iowa Code, utilizing the method of financing referenced below.  This project will construct a storm water detention basin and associated conveyance improvements on the north side of the street in the 2700 block of McKinley Avenue.  The detention basin will impound storm water and release the stored volume over an extended period of time to reduce the potential for flooding downstream from this location.

Funding Source:  2009-2010 CIP, Page Storm-14, McKinley Avenue Drainage Improvements, STE083, Storm Water Utility Funds

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 

The Engineering Department has prepared plans, specifications, form of contract documents, and City Engineer’s estimate for the construction of the McKinley Avenue Drainage Improvements - S.W. 26th/S.W. 31st Streets, 08-2009-006.  The improvement includes approximately 6800 CY of excavation, 267.5 LF of 18” storm sewer, 181.4 LF of 18” storm sewer augered-in-place, associated storm sewer manholes and intakes, PCC driveway removal and replacement, driveway culverts, sod, and miscellaneous associated work including clean up; all in accordance with the contract documents, including Plan File Nos. 483-119/123, located along the north side of the 2700 block of McKinley Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa.

 

The estimated construction cost is $313,476.50.  The proposed plans, specifications, and form of contract documents are available for public inspection in the City Engineer's Office.

ANTICIPATED ACTIONS AND FUTURE COMMITMENTS:

 

Anticipated actions include public hearing, receive and file bids, designate lowest bidder, and approve contract and bond; also partial payments to the contractor and final acceptance of work.
