AGENDA HEADING:    

 

Approval of the procurement of electronic legal research services and materials from Thomson Reuters at an estimated annual cost of $48,000.

 

 

SYNOPSIS: 

 

Recommend approval of the procurement of legal research services and materials from Thomson Reuters during fiscal year 2009 at an estimated annual cost of $48,000.  Municipal Code section 2-726(a) (5) provides for a non-competitive procurement of contracts for the purchase of magazines, books, periodicals and similar articles of an educational or instructional nature.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

Amount:   $48,000

 

Funding Source:  LGL040000/Tort Services and LGL010000/General Services, FY10 Operating Budget, pages 160 and 161.

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

 

Thomson Reuters (formerly known as West Publishing) is considered to be the most comprehensive source for general and specialized legal research materials, including all state and federal cases and municipal databases.  Access to the Thomson Reuters database allows the Legal Department to use and maintain a much smaller legal library of printed materials and to have access to legal cases and federal and other state statutes and regulations on a timely basis.
