Acceptance
of 2009 Recovery Act: Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG)
Formula Program: Local Solicitation
grant award.
SYNOPSIS:
Recommend
acceptance of the Des Moines Police Department’s grant award from the U.S.
Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau
of Justice Assistance. The grant will
fund improvements in forensic capabilities, upgrade technology, fund equipment
that will address officer safety and provide for procedural efficiencies. The City of Des Moines will act as fiscal
agent for this grant.

IMPACT:
The total award amount is $1,502,161 with
allocations to the County
of Polk and Cities of Altoona, Ankeny, Clive, Des Moines, Johnston, Pleasant
Hill, Urbandale, and West Des Moines.
