AGENDA HEADING:

Approving contract amount for Louie’s Floor Covering for end of FY 2008-09 and FY 2009-10.

SYNOPSIS:

Recommend approval to award contract for carpeting and related materials for various municipal buildings in the amount of $40,000 to Louie’s Floor Covering, Randy Croat, owner, 2709 Ingersoll Ave., Des Moines, IA 50312.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Amount:  $40,000 per year

Funding Source:  FY09-10 Operating Budget, BLD085 CP034 PKS990000, page 14

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The Park and Recreation Department incurs expenses for remodeling in various municipal buildings including the Police Station, IT Department, Traffic and Transportation, Legal Dept. and Parks and Recreation Dept. including recent moves to 600 E. Court due to the flood of 2008.  Cost increases and anticipation of additional projects will require an increase in funding for the next fiscal year also.

Two bids were received, Louie’s Floor Covering and Gilcrest Jewett.  Louie’s Floor Covering’s bid was low on roll carpet and vinyl tile.  Together they account for almost 90% of the funds expended by this contract.  Gilcrest Jewett was low bidder on carpet squares but that purchase only accounts for about 5% of the funds expended by this contract.  The remainder of the expenses of this contract relate to removal and installation of carpet, carpet squares and vinyl tile.  Overall, the lowest bid is from Louie’s Floor Covering.
