AGENDA HEADING:
Approving

additional work on the Fleur Drive Bridge over the Raccoon River Rehabilitation,
for a total not to exceed $103,764.51.
SYNOPSIS:
Recommend approval of Change
Order No. 3 in an amount not to exceed $103,764.51 with The Truesdell Corporation of Wisconsin, Inc.,
Kurt L. Clink, President, 1310 W. 23rd Street, Tempe, Arizona,
85282, for replacement of 27 rocker bearings.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Amount: $103,764.51
Funding
Source: 2009-10 CIP, Page Bridge 19, Structural
Repair – Corrosion Protection, BRV039, TIF and GO Bonds.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The
contract for the rehabilitation of the Fleur Drive Bridge over the
Raccoon River was awarded to Truesdell Corporation of Wisconsin, Inc., in the amount of $1,424,424, which was below the
engineer’s estimate of $1,577,664 by 9.71%.
This project
was designed to restore the structural integrity to the Fleur Drive Bridge over
the Raccoon River that was built in 1936.
A major component of this restoration was the cleaning and painting of
the structural steel. While blast cleaning
the structure for painting, the extensive deterioration of the fabricated plate
rockers due to corrosion was discovered.
In order to obtain proper function of the bearings, the recommendation
of our structural consultant, Shuck-Britson, Inc., was
replacement with cast rocker bearing assemblies. Eagle Iron Works of Des Moines is the
sole supplier of these castings and due to the flooding of their facility in
2008, production of these assemblies was delayed until summer of 2009. Eagle Iron Works filled orders after their
return to service. This change order is
to pay for providing and installing these rocker bearings.
