Hearing on 2009 Sewer Repair Contract 2:  Resolution approving plans, specifications, form of contract documents, engineer’s estimate, receive and file bids and designating lowest responsible bidder as Reilly Construction Co., Inc., Chris R. Reilly, President, 110 Main Street, PO Box 99, Ossian, IA  52161, $329,808.70.

 

 

SYNOPSIS:

 

This is a public hearing to allow for public input on the 2009 Sewer Repair Contract 2 and take the necessary actions as required by Iowa Code to authorize a contract for construction of the proposed project.  The storm sewers at S.E. 6th Street & Pioneer Road and S.E. 6th Street & Lacona Avenue are collapsing near structures and must be replaced within the easement areas.  The outlets to the storm sewers at the other three locations, 3500 62nd Street, 323 E. Broad Street and McHenry Park, require spot repairs.

Amount:  $329,808.70 Construction Contract ($377,000 City Engineer's Estimate)

 

Funding Source:  2009-2010 CIP, Page Storm-4, City-wide Storm Water Utility Projects, STE057, Storm Water Utility Funds.

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 

On October 12, 2009, under Roll Call No. 09-1828, the City Council received and filed plans, specifications, form of contract documents and City Engineer's estimate for the construction of the 2009 Sewer Repair Contract 2.  Before the City Council can enter into a contract, it must hold a public hearing and approve the proposed plans, specifications, form of contract documents and engineer's estimate for the construction of the 2009 Sewer Repair Contract 2, 08-2009-007.  The improvements include construction of new storm sewers to repair deteriorated infrastructure and erosion at five various locations in Des Moines, Iowa, being: 3500 62nd Street, 323 E. Broad Street, S.E. 6th Street & Pioneer Road, S.E. 6th Street & Lacona Avenue and McHenry Park; and includes construction of storm sewers, manholes, intakes, grading, restoration of pavement and landscaping and other incidental items; in accordance with the contract documents including Plan File Nos. 508-093/143.

 

Sealed bids for said improvement were submitted by the following bidders:

 

Reilly Construction Co., Inc., Ossian, IA

Priority Excavating LLC, Des Moines, IA

T K Concrete Inc., Pella, IA

The Underground Company, Ltd., Carlisle, IA

Corell Contractor, Inc., West Des Moines, IA

Van Hauen & Associates, Inc., Grimes, IA

H & W Contracting LLC, Sioux Falls, SD

 

The bids were received and opened at a public meeting presided over by the City Engineer in the City Council Chambers, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 400 Robert D. Ray Drive, Des Moines, Iowa at 11:00 a.m. on October 27, 2009.

 

The City Engineer has determined that the lowest responsive, responsible bid for the construction of said improvement was submitted by Reilly Construction Co., Inc. in the amount of $329,808.70, and said bid should be accepted.  The Finance Director has determined that funds are available for said improvement, as stated above.
