AGENDA HEADING:

 

Ordering construction of the following:  E. 33rd Street & Easton Boulevard Intersection Improvements - Receiving bids, (2-9-10), and Setting date of hearing, (2-22-10).  (Construction Estimate - $490,000).

 

 

SYNOPSIS:

 

Recommend the City Council proceed with construction of the improvement and set dates to receive bids and hold a public hearing, as required by Iowa Code, utilizing the method of financing referenced below.  This project provides for widening Easton Boulevard east and west of E. 33rd Street in order to provide for left turn lanes.  E. 33rd Street will be restriped to provide left turn lanes approaching Easton Boulevard.  New traffic signals will be installed at the intersection.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

Amount:  $490,000 City Engineer's Estimate

 

Funding Source:  2009-2010 CIP, Page Street-15, E. 33rd and Easton Boulevard Intersection Improvements, STR234, Being: $400,000 in Iowa DOT Traffic Safety Funds (Max $400,000) and 90,000 in City G. O. Bonds

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 

The Engineering Department has prepared plans, specifications, form of contract documents, and City Engineer’s estimate for the construction of the E. 33rd Street & Easton Boulevard Intersection Improvements, 06-2009-004.  The improvement includes removing pavement and existing traffic signal system and construction a Portland Cement Concrete widening eight (8) inches thick with a Hot Mix Asphalt overlay, Portland Cement Concrete reconstruction nine (9) inches thick, new traffic signal system, storm sewer, subdrains, driveways, sidewalks, pavement markings, surface restoration and other incidental items; in accordance with the contract documents, including Plans File Nos. 514-164/195, at the intersection of E. 33rd Street and Easton Boulevard and on Easton from E. 33rd Street to E. 34th Street, Des Moines, Iowa.

 

The estimated construction cost is $490,000.  The proposed plans, specifications, and form of contract documents are available for public inspection in the City Engineer's Office.
