ORDINANCE NO. 13,719

AN ORDINANCE to amend the Municipal Code of Des Moines, 1991, adopted by Ordinance No. 11,651, passed April 15, 1991, and amended by Ordinance No. 12,097, passed February 28, 1994, and amended by Ordinance No. 13,214, passed July 24, 1995 by repealing Section 2-344.02 thereof and enacting a new Section 2-344.02, relating to the public housing board members.


Be It Ordained by the City Council of the City of Des Moines, Iowa:

Section 1. That the Municipal Code of Des Moines, 1991, adopted by Ordinance No. 11,651, passed April 15, 1991 and amended by Ordinance No. 12,097, passed February 28, 1994, and amended by Ordinance No. 13,214, passed July 24, 1995 is hereby amended by repealing Section 2-344.02 thereof and enacting a new Section 2-344.02, relating to the public housing board members, as follows:

2-344.02. PUBLIC HOUSING BOARD ESTABLISHED.

(a) There is hereby established in and for the city of Des Moines the public housing board, (hereinafter referred to in this subchapter as the board) for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this subchapter and the municipal code of the city of Des Moines.

(b) The board shall consist of seven members, each having the right to vote, with each council person appointing one member of the board. Of the seven members appointed in July of 1999, two shall be appointed for one year, three shall be appointed for two years, and two shall be appointed for three years. Thereafter, all appointments shall be for three years, provided, however, that each member shall hold over until his or her successor is appointed and confirmed. Any vacancies occurring in the membership shall be filled in accordance with sections 2-48.01 and 2-48.001 of this chapter. Any member may be removed by a majority vote of the city council. The terms of board members shall expire on and as of June 30 of the year in which their terms expire. All appointments after the original appointments, shall be in accordance with sections 2-48.01 and 2-48.001 of this chapter.


Sec. 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law.
