• Park Access Impacted

    Shoreline stabilization along the southern bank of the Raccoon River will close portions of the trail along Fleur Drive and into the park through the summer of 2019. Vehicle access stops at the northwest parking lot and bicycle/pedestrian traffic will be detoured onto the closed park road. Yoga in the Park will be moved to Union Park for its final month.

  • Family Fun at Union Park

    Head down to the Union Park area for the first ever “Fall Family Fun Fest” on Saturday, October 13, which will feature a full slate of free activities including food eating competitions, a youth music showcase, pumpkin contest, Free Flicks movie and more. It all starts at noon!

  • Construction at MacRae Park

    As a part of the EMC Overlook project, the upper portion of the MacRae Park road will be closed and reconstructed. The road will be closed at the north intersection by the pond and the south intersection by the newly renovated Walker Shelter. The upper section of the road will be closed through Spring 2019.

    Have a great photo of MacRae Park, the Bill Riley Trail, the splash pool at Ashby Park or other location? It could be the cover photo for our 2018 Report to the Community! From September 4 - October 4, submit photos of any Des Moines park, trail or other amenity online. Voting for the finalists begins October 15, with the winner announced October 24.

  • Register for Youth Basketball

    Hit the court this fall with Youth Basketball, presented in partnership with Des Moines Public School. Leagues are available for boys and girls in 1st – 7th grade. The season ends with the “final four” played at the Knapp Center at Drake University. The cost is $550 per team or $60 per player. This program is GRASP eligible.

  • Yoga in the Park is moving

    Yoga in the Park sponsored by UnityPoint Health - Des Moines will be moving to a new location for the final month of the season. Join us every Saturday in September from 9 – 10 a.m. at Union Park. Classes have been moved due to construction at Gray’s Lake Park. See the link below for a full list of instructors.
