    Preparations for this year's Des Moines Escape Triathlon (Sept.3) will affect access to Gray's Lake Park starting August 30. The park, trail and concession stand will remain open. No boat rentals will be allowed during the events. Click the link below to view the schedule of areas impacted.

  • New Program!!

    Des Moines Parks and Recreation, along with

    Fleet Feet Sports, is introducing a new series for runners of all levels to explore the 18 miles of nature trails in our park system. Each Wednesday at 6 p.m., starting August 30, participants are invited to join the three or six-mile guided runs at Greenwood, Ewing or Grandview Park.

  • Love Trails? We Need You!

    Over 100 volunteers are needed to conduct counts and collect surveys in 20+ different locations Sept. 12 and 13 from 4:15 pm to 7:30 pm and Sept. 16 from 11:15 am to 2:30 pm. Volunteer once and receive a free bike rental at Gray’s Lake Park. Volunteer for multiple shifts and earn a free 2018 Mayor's Annual Ride registration!

  • Youth Flag Football Registration!

    Registration is available for our Youth Flag Football league! Open to children in grades 1-7, the cost to register is $50 per individual or $475 as a team and includes a jersey and all other equipment. Hurry and sign up before September 10!

    Introduce your child to team sports and game situations while learning the basics of soccer in a fun atmosphere! Registration is available for our Pee Wee Indoor Soccer league. Open to kids ages 3-6, the cost to register is $25 per person and includes a jersey.

    Des Moines Parks and Recreation and UnityPoint Health - Des Moines invite you to start your Saturday mornings with a free weekly yoga session from 9 - 10 a.m. August 5 through September 2 at the James W. Cownie Soccer Complex.
